Dove is a COURTESY POST for Saddle Up! She is a much loved retiree from the program. Dove is a 16 year old, 14.2H, unregistered POA mare. Due to issues with laminitis she needs to be a on a restricted diet that includes a dry lot (no grass). A home inspection and references are required. Due to unknown issues relating to her back and hocks, she is extremely uncomfortable when being ridden by even the lightest riders and would like to go to a companion only home. She is very even tempered and easy to get along with on the ground, though she can be a bit pushy at feeding time. Dove needs sunblock on her muzzle in the summer and a restricted diet (she's a very easy keeper!). She is great with kids and loves to be groomed. We do have the following list of requirements for a home for Dove: 1) Veterinarian and farrier references required. 2) The placement will be permanent for Dove. 3) No open water in pasture. 4) Fencing must be safe and easily visible. 5) Shelter must have at least three sides. Enclosed stalls strongly preferred. 6) New owner must have a large amount of horse care experience, experience with senior horses is strongly desired. 7) Owner must live on premises. 8) Horses must be fed at least twice daily and as recommended by veterinarian. I know our requirements are strict but our horses are extremely important to all of us and we want to know that they will be loved and taken care of like they deserve.
