Paint/Pinto - Medium - Young - Male - Horse - Flash
Description
September 20, 2008 Flash will be returning from the trainer. We can't wait to have him back!UPDATE from the professional trainer July 2, 2008 - Flash is doing GREAT! He's made quite an impression so far (we knew he would!). Four days in, and he's already been ridden in the round pen twice (we had already started some ground work). He's not bucked or reared at all, and he's reported to be a bit "lazy" - a good thing to hear when you're introducing so many new things all at once! We are looking forward to hearing more good things as his training progresses! June 23, 2008 - Flash has been accepted to enter training with our favorite West TN Quarter Horse Trainer/Specialist. We can't wait to see how he does!! He will remain there for at least 90 days, and we expect to hear great things from this talented young gelding. Chances are good we'll even get some offers on him while he is there, he's just got so much talent and such a great attitude. Go Flash! We apologize for the quality of the pics. It was late at night when we decided it was time to snap a few! He has since slicked off nicely, and gained some needed weight and muscle.Flash is a recent intake from a neglect case. Since the case is still pending in the court system, we really can't say much about the circumstances, but we can tell you that Flash is very lucky to have found us and boy, does he know it. We haven't heard the first complaint out of him, and he still seems happily surprised when we show up on time, TWO TIMES A DAY (wow!) with some really yummy sweet feed and all the hay a horse could eat! Flash is a three year old Sorrel breeding stock Paint (registered as a Paint with no Paint markings). He measures 13H3. He has been gelded in our care, and received a tetanus shot. He has a negative coggins, and his vaccinations will be brought up to date as soon as he recovers from his recent snip snip surgery. Flash has excellent ground manners, and loads well. He'd actually rather load in the trailer than come back out (we'll explain that part of the story later!). He picks up his hooves on request, and did GREAT in what we believe was his first farrier visit (and no, we didnt use any medicinal aids!). We also believe he might have some basic training under saddle. As you can see from the pics, he stood well while being saddled. Free lunging in a round pen was a new concept, but he's learning fast. We expect to have someone on his back soon! Flash appears to be 100% sound, and has a gorgeous floating trot and a nice, even, slow canter/jog. There appear to be no long term effects from his recent misfortune, and someone is going to be very lucky to have him!! We plan to spend more time assessing his training and abilities as soon as the weather is a bit nicer, so check back for updates. Flash is low in the pecking order... actually, he's at the very bottom of the totem pole here. He doesn't seem to mind, though. He has made friends with one of the mares and one of the geldings, and watching them frolic in the pretty Spring sunshine is a sight to behold!! Flash is laid back, but he's no slow poke. When he decides to take off, watch out!! He'd probably be a natural at timed events like barrels or poles, and with his smaller size and agile nature, he might even be a show stopper! Flash's adoption fee will offset some of the cost of his recovery and care. PLEASE understand that horses are not inexpensive to own, and our rescues receive the tantamount in care. Our adoption fees only partially offset our expenses. PLEASE do not ask us to waive or lower our fees - if you cannot afford a nominal adoption fee, you really can't afford a horse at all. We are committed to finding the BEST forever homes for our horses, and if that takes some time, then so be it. Flash is happy, and we are happy to have him here! No, he's not REALLY housetrained, but he does only go on the edges of his stall.... makes for easy cleanup!!
